Transforming Data and Information into Better Healthcare Decisions

Computerized Patient Records

Work best when data are captured in a structured way so that meaningful comparisons can be made

 Electronic Health Records

Secondary uses of clinical data include quality reporting and research.

The  healthcare industry has been slow to adopt electronic information systems.  Recent government funding, however, and greater interest in improving quality and lowering costs is increasing adoption rates.

Electronic health records are extremely complex due to the complex nature of medical practice, yet numerous vendors are now delivering high quality systems.  Currently, many health systems and hospitals are managing patient care in a paperless environment. Surprisingly, however, few EHR vendors are providing effective ways to re-use patient data for quality improvement, research, and public health.

I am excited about helping healthcare providers realize the full benefits of their EMR systems by effectively retrieving and analyzing clinical data for research and analytical purposes.
